PAINTING WITH PAPER
My practice pushes the boundaries of the paper collage medium through an emerging and unique technique called painting with paper.
I intuitively choose and hand cut thousands of magazine page fragments, then reassemble these pieces in a way that mimics a painters brushstrokes to create highly textured intricate collages.
Inspired by dreams, memory, and spirituality my art serves as self exploration. I believe a form of creative expression and a relationship with the self are absolutely essential to a fulfilling life. Transforming commercial media into personal puzzles where every single piece is an indispensable part of a whole is a reflection of my own never ending process of self integration.
Know Thyself.

Alexandria Joliat is a self-taught mixed media collage artist based in Northeast Ohio. She began experimenting with paper collage at the age of eighteen and quickly fell in love with the medium. She dedicated her twenties to intense studio practice developing a distinctive technique called "painting with paper". Her work explores themes of self empowerment, archetypal symbols, and the unseen world.
While her formative years were defined by technical advancement, a major shift in her personal beliefs around 2024 marked a turning point in her creativity. This evolution ushered in a new era of her practice and expanded her studio work into it's most exceptional and realized form yet.
In addition to her studio work, Alexandria is involved in arts education sharing her skills through youth art camps and after school programs. Her collages have been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout Ohio.
